We first went to our local craft store and bought the upper body of a doll. I pulled out the eyes to make room for the LED lights we were going to put in its place. The arms were too short for us, so we cut them off of the body and slipped a dowel through the sockets. We then screwed in two 1/2" 90' elbows to increase the arm size.
Using a wire mesh, we extended the body in the shape of a dress. The entire body length is roughly about 2 to 2.5 feet long. (Which is why we had to proportion the shoulders)
Next, using a mixture of 3 cups to 1 of water and flour, we papier-mâché the body using old newspaper. Now from our experience we would recommend also adding some salt to this mixture. This will prevent any molding from occurring on your figure. To make sure this figure stays in tact, we painted on many layers of this mixture so that it will stay strong over the years.
Once dry, we painted the angel with a creamy white paint to simulate a stone look.
Once painted we fed the LED lights through the eyes and down through the body. The battery pack is located under the dress to prevent any rain or moisture from damaging the battery pack.
Lastly, here is the final product on its resting place, a tombstone. I attached a 1/2" pvc tube from the angel to the bottom of the tombstone. I will use this to attach the tombstone to the ground so that it won't blow over.
